Sewing Tuesday: Part One: Red Red Robin.

Hi folks!
I've been thinking about Christmas! I know, it's a while away yet but this year I'd really like to make all of our decorations. So I think starting early is a really good idea.
Here's part one of how to make this Red Red Robin tree decoration. He has a smart hat.

Also, he's the same on both sides so when he dangles around on the tree he looks good all of the time.

You will need:

  • Red, brown, black and beak coloured scraps of felt.
  • Scissors.
  • 2 beads for eyes.
  • Thread that matches your felt.
  • Pins.
  • A needle.
  • Paper
  • A pencil.
  • Optional: stuffing or a cotton ball.

Step 1.
Draw a birdy body shape on your paper and cut out two from the brown felt.

Step 2.
Cut out the red breast shape from your birdy body shape like in the picture below. Cut out two of the red breast shapes from the felt.
I wrote on the red breast shape so that you know which it is!

Step 3.
Cut a teeny triangle from the beak coloured felt.

Step 4.
Cut out two wing shapes from the brown felt. You could cut slits in to them to make them look feathery.

Step 5.
Cut out two hat shapes from the black felt. Cut them out together if you need to so that they are the same as each other.

Here are the bits you should have by now:

  • 2 hat shapes.
  • 2 birdy body shapes.
  • 2 red breast shapes.
  • 2 wings.
  • A beak.

Next week I'll show you how to sew them all together to make your Red Red Robin! If you think you can do it before then without my help, go for it!
See you next week!
Holly.
